On May 30th and 31st the Tetranational Congress Phytotherapy 2024 – “Herbal Pruducts for Human and Animal Healthcare” took place in the historical Academy Building of Utrecht University, The Netherlands. The joint congress organized by the Societies of Phytotherapy of Austria, Germany, Switzerland and The Netherlands provided a broad spectrum of recent clinical and preclinical research on phytotherapy in human and veterinary medicine. The potential of herbal products to fight antibiotic resistance and to inhibit biofilm formation was covered as well as different approaches of ethnomedicine, new aspects in gender medicine, the microbiome-brain-gut axis or the legal framework for herbals. The chair of ESCOP, Prof. L. Krenn, presented a survey about the attitudes of medical students’ in Europe towards phytopharmaceuticals. The successful congress ended on June 1st with an excursion to the A. Vogel Gardens in Elburg.
